The Resource Center of the
Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown

Beyond a Hot Meal — Taking the Next Step to A Better Life

After 20 years of feeding the homeless and working poor of the Morristown area, the leadership of the Community Soup Kitchen made a commitment to expand its mission by launching the Resource Center, to provide our guests with tools they can use to improve all aspects of their lives.

The Resource Center was designed to empower people by giving them easy access to existing social service and health programs, education opportunities, and employment counseling. The Resource Center also partners with local non-profit organizations to improve coordination of services and help them effectively outreach potential clients.

In our first eighteen months, we have collaborated with dozens of local agencies to provide services to our guests, and have initiated several educational, counseling and employment programs of our own.

Recent Programs and Special Events Hosted by the Resource Center

Alcohol & Drug Treatment Outreach Team — Twice a week during the lunch hour a specialist from the team is available to guests dealing with substance abuse. An open Alcoholics Anonymous meeting is also available on-site each week.

Employment Counseling — Our job coach is present to work with guests needing employment, and job opportunities are posted on the resource Center bulletin board.

Health — A nurse is on-site weekly to perform blood pressure screenings and refer people for further medical assistance. Recently, Lenscrafters and the Commission for the Blind provided free eye exams and glasses to 130 people in the Morristown area. Another event is planned.

English as a Second Language — An ESL class is available to guests wishing to learn English in an individualized and flexible class setting.

Ways to Become Involved

Become a Service Provider — If you are a non-profit organization in the Morristown area that offers services to the working poor and homeless, we would like to hear from you. We can establish a system for referring clients, or you can send a representative of your organization to the Resource Center to offer information and services to our guests.

Make a Donation or Provide a Grant — The Resource Center is seeking funding to expand its offerings. Your individual donation or corporate or foundation grant will be used to underwrite salaries and purchase materials.
